George Washington

George Washington was born on February 22, 1731 in Virginia. His parents, Mary Ball and Augustine Washington owned a plantation with slaves in Virginia.

When George was 11 his father died and after that Mary, his mother, who could not take care of him so his brother, Lawrance, took him in.

George became a farmer like his father and his plantation was called Mt. Vernon. Even though, George had always wanted to be a soldier. He was part of The French and Indian War in 1754-1763.

In 1759, when Washington was 28, he married a widowed woman named Martha Custis.

A few years after The Revolutionary War ended, George was called to host the discussion about new government. In 1789, when Washington was 57 years old, he was elected president without any competiton. George Washington was the first President of United States of America. Than he was re-elected to a second term. After his second term, Washington decided not to run for re-election even though he was popular enough to win it. After his second term ended in 1797, he went back home to Mt. Vermont and three years later on December 14th, he died at age 67.

The State of Washington, Washington D.C. and many schools are named after him. Even his face is on the one dollar bill and the quarter coin.
